A Letter to Mayor Bill Henfey
Dear Mayor:
I am pleased to report the progress of Atlantic City Electric’s Energy Wise Rewards program, an initiative designed to reduce energy usage at critical periods, save money on energy costs, and take a big step towards a more sustainable lifestyle.
How It Works
Energy Wise Rewards works by cycling the central air conditioner of residential customers over short intervals (conservation periods) on selected summer days (called Peak Saving Days). During normal cycling operations, the air conditioner compressor runs and rests in recurring intervals to maintain ideal room temperature.
Customers who volunteer for the program have a choice of a web-programmable thermostat or an outdoor switch to be installed. Each enrolled customer will receive a $50 credit on their bill for participating in the program.
Real Results
Since the program’s launch, more than 40,000 devices have been installed.
Atlantic City Electric activated the devices on July 17th , which reduced the energy usage by approximately 44 megawatts. That’s enough electricity to power 18,000 homes for 1 hour.
