North Wildwood, NJ – Steve Murray & the Friends of Hereford Inlet Lighthouse are honored to be featured in the Gardens of the Garden State, by Susan Lowry and Nancy Berner, a book featuring the top gardens from the State of New Jersey. The Victorian style gardens were designed by Steve Murray in 1986 and continue to grow, now home to over 200 plant varieties in different garden rooms. The Lighthouse gardens have been featured in many magazines and books including but not limited to: The Great Gardens of New Jersey, Exploring Gardens and Greenscapes (From Connecticut to Delaware Valley) and The Garden State in Bloom. The release date for the Gardens of the Garden State is set for October 14 and will work in conjunction with the Governor’s office, announcing October as New Jersey’s official Fall Gardening Month. The book features 29 gardens throughout the State, only two of which are from Cape May County.

The Christie Administration press release on September 18, 2014 states, “Horticulture is a $445 million a year industry for New Jersey, ranking 9th in the nation in nursery, greenhouse, and sod sales.” The NJ Secretary of Agriculture held a press conference at the Willowwood Arboretum, Chester, NJ on Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. The authors of the new book, Gardens of the Garden State were present to discuss the beautiful gardens including the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse gardens featured in their book.
