At the May 21 meeting of City Council, Mayor Bill Henfey and Council presented Public Works Superintendent Harry Wozunk with a Proclamation from the Office of the Mayor in honor of National Public Works Week.

In part it reads: “This week seeks to enhance the awareness and prestige of the often unsung heroes of our society—the professionals who serve the public good every day with quiet dedication…”

Some of the essential services that our Public Works Department sustains—and few residents are aware of–were listed in the proclamation: the storm sewer system, solid waste collection and disposal, recycling, traffic control, street maintenance, engineering, water and sanitary sewer service, streets, public buildings, and parks.

Mayor Bill Henfey said, “The intricacies of these operations usually go unnoticed, but the fact that they do is testament to the department and its employees who keep things working smoothly.”
