North Wildwood, NJ – On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, Mayor Patrick Rosenello and North Wildwood City Council honored former Mayor Anthony Catanoso, the longest serving Mayor of North Wildwood from November 14, 1958 – January 1, 1985, with a proclamation presented to his loving wife Phyllis and remaining family members.

Anthony Catanoso served as both Freeholder of Cape May County and Mayor of North Wildwood from the late-1950s to the mid-1980s. His greatest accomplishments as an elected official were the preservation and lease agreement of the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse, numerous back-bay dredging projects, infrastructure projects, and the construction of City buildings including but not limited to: North Wildwood Police Department, North Wildwood Beach Patrol Headquarters, our Public Works Facility, and our Recreation Center. Anthony Catanoso was also a veteran of WWII serving in Sicily and Italy as an interpreter and investigator in a specialized outfit named AMGOT (Allied Military Government of Occupied Territories).

Anthony is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis, to whom he was married for sixty-six years, daughter and son-in-law, Pati and Jack Sparks, three grandchildren (Art, Kelly Sparks-Stauffer (Sandy) and Christy Czworkowski (Charles), nine great-grandchildren (Alexandra, Anthony, Steven, Morgan, Caz, Caskia, Cezanne , Czarek, and Co); two brothers, Leonard (Connie), Joe, two sisters Leona Betz and Mary Nestor, two sisters-in-law, Carole Catanoso and Louise Catanoso, and numerous nieces and nephews.
