Despite Rain, Hundreds Celebrated in This Year’s St. Patrick’s Day Celebration
Rain didn’t stop hundreds of green wearing Irish-Americans from celebrating in North Wildwood for this year St. Patrick’s Day celebration on Saturday, March 14. Spectators lined the bleachers of North Wildwood Recreation Center to watch local elected officials, clergymen, representatives from Wildwood Catholic Student Council, and festive pipe bands celebrate their Irish heritage in this year’s annual celebration. Speeches were given by Mayor Patrick Rosenello, Council President Salvatore Zampirri, Assemblyman Samuel Fiocchi, Grand Marshal and War Hero Kevin McCloskey and Father Joseph Wallace of Notre Dame de la Mer Parish.
Spectators also enjoyed wonderful performances by: Dolly Magee singing the National Anthem and God Bless America, NW Police Captain Kevin Tolan performing the Irish National Anthem, performances by Second Street Irish Society Pipe Band, Gloucester County String Band and the Cape May Atlantic Police and Fire Pipe Brigade, and a beautiful benediction from Father Joseph D. Wallace, Notre Dame de la Mer Parish. Mayor Rosenello announced Kevin McCloskey as this year’s Grand Marshal by saying, “I am honored to have Kevin McCloskey with us today serving as our Grand Marshal. Kevin is the epitome of what it means to be an outstanding Irish-American citizen.”
Mayor Rosenello was also grateful for the turn out by local Irish organizations and the unparalleled dedication to festival operations by our recreation department. “I would like to thank the clubs and organizations that come down every year to celebrate with us; as well as our hard working Recreation staff for their dedication to have this event go off year after year,” said Mayor Patrick Rosenello.
