On Friday, February 23, North Wildwood officials learned that the City will be awarded a $10.3 million grant for Boardwalk Reconstruction. The grant is part of the $100 million Boardwalk Preservation Fund that was established by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and State Legislators, including Senator Michael Testa and Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald.
North Wildwood will receive the third-largest award of the 18 municipalities that will be earning financial assistance from the Boardwalk Preservation Fund.
This grant, administered by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, intends to provide assistance to address the most critical capital needs of boardwalks. It also aims to help the Jersey Shore communities remain vibrant tourism destination in the long term by investing in state-ofthe- art materials to ensure longer lasting infrastructure. The funding was made possible through the American Rescue Plan Coronavirus State & Local Fiscal Recover Funds.
“North Wildwood City Councilmembers and I are grateful to be the recipients of one of the largest grant awards in New Jersey”, said Mayor Patrick Rosenello. “I would like to thank Governor Murphy for personally calling me to share the exciting news of this generous award. This award will be critical for the City to finance a rehabilitation project to restore the “Boardwalk of Fame and Happiness”.”
The City plans to begin Phase 1 of Boardwalk Reconstruction this upcoming fall.
