North Wildwood Hosts V.F.W. Memorial Day Ceremony at North Wildwood Veterans Memorial Park, Spruce & New York Avenues on Monday May 30th, 2022 at 10 a.m.

The City of North Wildwood is honored to host the V.F.W. service to commemorate our veterans on Memorial Day. This Memorial Day service will honor fallen soldiers of all wars. We invite you to join us in remembering those who have fallen in the line of duty, while sacrificing their lives for the survival of our nation and its values. All are welcome to join alongside local civic leaders, religious figures, elected officials, and residents for the ceremony at 10 a.m. at the North Wildwood Veterans Memorial Park located at Spruce and New York Avenues, North Wildwood, NJ 08260.

Memorial Day was first observed in 1868 with the decoration of the graves of Union soldiers who perished in battle, following the end of the Civil War. One hundred years later, President Johnson signed into law the Uniform Monday Holiday Act to designate the last Monday of May as a federal holiday to commemorate soldiers who perished in the line of duty. Every Memorial Day, the flag is lowered to half-staff to remember the more than one million veterans who have given their lives for their country. At noon, the flag is raised to full-staff to give the living an opportunity to honor the memory of the dead and raise the resolve and commitment of our nation to the fight for liberty.

This year’s Memorial Day Ceremony will also include a ground breaking for a soon-to-be Gold Star Families Memorial. Gold Star Families Memorial monuments honor families of servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives while serving in the military. The North Wildwood Gold Star Families Memorial monument will be the first of its kind in the State of New Jersey.

“While many families will spend the holiday as a time of recreation and relaxation, let us not forget the true nature of why we celebrate Memorial Day. We are the living proof that our veterans have not died in vain. It is up to us, as a grateful nation, to honor those brave women and men who made the ultimate sacrifice for the survival of liberty. I would also like to extend my deepest gratitude to the members of North Wildwood VFW Post 5941 for their continued commitment to honoring our veterans. We are fortunate to have in our community such a dedicated group of American patriots. We can never thank them enough, not just for their past service, but also to their continued contributions to our city.” – Mayor Patrick Rosenello
